Field Of Dreams II - Pembroke, MA
Pembroke’s Field of Dreams Comes to Light
On Friday evening, May 26, the town of Pembroke (MA) christened its field of dreams in an impressive ceremony attended by hundreds of townspeople and little leaguers dressed in their team uniforms. Representatives from Granite City Electric, Sullivan & McLaughlin and Reflex Lighting were there to throw the switch on a professional sports lighting system which bathed a finely manicured ballfield in 42,000 watts of light.
The field will be named for 1st Lt. Brian McPhillips who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2003. Brian loved baseball and played little league ball on the field while growing up in Pembroke.
The field used to be a sandlot until volunteers got it irrigated, built new fences and dugouts. According to Pembroke Youth Baseball League President Steve Nagle they used the same infield mix as Fenway. The whole town was overjoyed when Granite City Electric announced that Pembroke was the winner of Field of Dreams2 and now their upgraded field could be used for night games too.
During the ceremony, Phyllis Godwin, CEO of Granite City Electric said “We are delighted that Pembroke won our second Field of Dreams contest. You have a beautiful field in a beautiful town and I congratulate you for all your hard work. It gives us enormous pleasure to know that many young people will have the thrill of playing under the lights.”
The contest for Field of Dreams 3 is currently being held. The winner will be announced in September.
