Granite City Electric Owner Phyllis P. Godwin Honored with 2007 New England Women's Leadership Award

On May 9, 2007 the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys & Girls Club honored the recipients of their 15th Annual New England Women’s Leadership Awards. Five outstanding women were recognized for their accomplishments, including Ms. Phyllis P. Godwin, Chairman and CEO of Granite City Electric Supply Co. Ms. Godwin was the recipient of the Circle of Giving Award.

Through her many pioneering efforts Ms. Godwin has helped pave the way for women in leadership roles in business and her local community. In a time when women were not expected to lead companies at all, Ms. Godwin directed her electric supply company to achieve terrific growth and success against the challenges of a very male dominated industry and era. As a charitable member of the community, she has been the first woman to hold leadership positions in many community groups. Ms. Godwin is dedicated to the continued success of business women: “She feels that it is important for women to see that they can make a difference by going into business – for themselves, their peers and the community at large. Her personal efforts on behalf of non-profit organizations, sharing her ‘time, talent and treasure’ have been significant.”

The Colonel Daniel Marr Boys & Girls Club is made up of three Clubhouses in Dorchester. It serves over 4,000 kids and has 100 dedicated staff members to improving the lives of the youth of Dorchester.
