Granite City Electric Supply Company’s Charity Golf Classic

Joshua’s Run for the Jimmy Fund and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to benefit from proceeds of $16,000

Quincy, MA – Granite City Electric Supply Company, New England’s leading independent electrical distributor, hosted its 2007 GCE Charity Golf Classic at Foxborough Country Club, Foxboro MA to benefit Joshua’s Run for the Jimmy Fund and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This year’s tournament raised over $16,000 for the charities.

Joshua’s Run for the Jimmy Fund was created in 1996 by Joshua’s mother, Esther Blacker, to show her appreciation for the care her son received at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Boston’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The run, for which Granite City Electric Supply Company is a major sponsor, has raised over $240,000 towards childhood cancer research.

Also to benefit from the proceeds of this year’s GCE charity golf classic is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. “This charity is near and dear to my heart” commented Chairman and CEO of Granite City Electric, Phyllis P. Godwin. “Type 1 diabetes is just an awful disease that has affected the lives of some of our employees as well as our family members. We hope a cure for this devastating disease will be discovered quickly.”
